My Website

I was given the task of creating a website as part of one of my modules, we first started using a website builder called portfoliobox, which is a good thing to start with but if you wanted to make a full-on website and make it look professional I wouldn’t recommend using it because it wasn’t the simplest of things to use either.

So I then went onto Squarespace and started to use that but then if I wanted to make my website seeable for the public I would have had to pay a lot more for the website than I did because I used Wix to create my website.

I called my website www.kjtphotos.com because it’s my initials and it’s a simple thing to remember as well which is also the reason why I wanted to make it memorable and catchy.

This is what the main homepage looks like, I wanted to make it eyecatching and easy to access and use so there are links at the top to different shots that I have done before and a few highlight shots and a small about page with my details and an enquiry aspect of it.

This is the about page where there is a small paragraph about me and how I got into photography at a younger age, and within that page, there is my details and an enquiry box that is connected to my account email.

My work being published in a paper

Recently a piece of my work was published in the evening reader, which is a paper based in Wrexham, a photo that i took of Nant Mill Waterfall, it was published with other people’s photos on one of the pages, but mine was one of the bigger pieces on the page, (not to brag or anything), i am very happy with it as i wasn’t expecting to get my work published at all.

This is my photo that was published in the Wrexham Evening Reader where it is one of the biggest photos on the page and i’m very proud of how the photo has turned out and I was surprised when I found out my photo was in the paper.

Nant Mill Waterfall

These are a few shots i took a few weeks ago, in Nant Mill Waterfall and i’m quite happy with the way the shots have come out and we had a couple of hours out there, it isn’t the easiest place to get to either but i did really enjoy it.

I went with a fellow student that i am currently studying on the same course as, as we both enjoy just going out exploring and taking photos, so i suggested to him to go out and he found the location and we both really enjoyed it.

Some of these photos are on a tilt because the ground was uneven by the waterfall, but i also think that it adds to the photo, but they can be altered if needs be, but i think it adds an effect to the photo.

Controller Levitating Effect After Effects

This is my second attempt at after effects, where i taught myself how to make it look like something was levitating in your hand but it’s only a quick edit for it, it turned out ok, but it didn’t turn out the way i wanted it too because of the blur and it looks like just a 2d image moving when it is meant to look 3d.

There is another post where i have the final video of this try as i changed my idea as this one didn’t work very well compared to my final idea, so I got rid of this idea and changed it.

Smoke Bomb Photography

These few photos came from an idea that i had seen on Pinterest and wanted to try it in my own way, so i ordered some smoke bombs in various colours, and i then had to think of a good location to shoot in, i thought doing it in a forest would look quite good, and to my surprise they came out better than i thought they were going too.

The first smoke bomb we did was more to see how the photos would turn out more than anything else, so that one was more experimental than the next three to see which way the smoke would travel as well and to check the speed that the smoke came out as well.

I really enjoyed it as i did it with my girlfriend who is more photogenic than i thought so the pictures came out spectacularly because i didn’t have to ask her to do anything she thought of positions herself and it was all natural her reactions and the way she looked in the photos compared to posing and me making her stand in a certain way, there was a slight bit of that with where she held the smoke bomb next to her body to see how it would turn out.

Border Honey – Beekeeping Company

On the 8th May I was able to have the experience to go and take photos with a company, that specialises in beekeeping and making honey so I was able to get really close to the hives where the bees were and was able to take photos and a few film shots of the bees moving in and around the comb.

I felt it was a really good experience because of how close I was able to get to the bees without them stinging me, I also found out a very interesting fact about bees that the male bees don’t sting they are only there to impregnate the queen so she can reproduce and the worker bees which are the females are there to feed the queen.

Research into Beekeeping

I am doing some research before I go to an opportunity that I have been given to work with a company that makes honey, I felt as though i should do some research into it because I will then know what I want to film, take photos of etc, So I thought that if i did research i will be able to get the best photos or get some really good shots filming if i did some prior research.

Beekeeping (or apiculture) is the maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in man-made hives, by humans. A beekeeper (or apiarist) keeps bees in order to collect their honey and other products that the hive produces (including beeswax, propolis, flower pollen, bee pollen, and royal jelly), to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. Thinking about what photos i’m going to get i’m going to ask how close i would be able to get to  the colony of bees on the honey as I think that it would make a really nice photo and I also want to film close to the honeycomb as well with the bees flying off as in editing i can slow it right down to make it look really effective.

So what I also want to get out of this opportunity is experience and more learning and it’s also a good way for me to practice with some editing and stuff like that because i’m still only getting to grips with programs such as premiere at the moment so it really shows and helps with a lot of things just practice more than anything else really.

Studio Mess Around

These are some of the photos that I took in the studio when I was messing around with my friend Adam, I haven’t edited all of the photos but I edited a few of them. We used a few different techniques with some speed lights to see what we could come out with, as we took some advice after we had been to the photography show in Birmingham, as we watched a presentation at the Sony stand, so we took the advice and tried it ourselves and this is what we came out with.

Trip out to Liverpool to take photos

I went out to Liverpool a couple of days during the Easter holidays, as I felt it was a really good opportunity to take photos during the days, and I have a few different photos which I am really happy with.

Throughout just walking around Liverpool I found some really cool and good graffiti and I thought that it would make a really good photo and I was happy that we were able to find some Banksy pieces as well.

Film Company: Million Youth Media

I have looked at Million Youth Media because they branch out to younger people in their films to make people more aware of life situations, such as knife crime, homelessness, thinking before doing something. I really enjoyed these films because they also used facts and a lot of different shots throughout the film to make it more eye catching and they also make there films very interesting as it makes it look like a real life situation but it isn’t they are all actors in these films.

They have mostly used younger actors in these films, I think this is because it’ll make younger people more interested in watching them and they are aimed at younger people, as they are life problems you may face after you leave school or college, or if you live in a deprived area.

They also use actors that have been well known before in their films, because if people are seeing there faces in the thumbnail it would make them want to watch the films and it will also make the person watching aware of the channel and make them want to watch more of their videos.
