Foley Film Research

For this segment, I am going to be talking about how much foley art is actually used during films and what you actually don’t realise, the amount that certain sounds in the film are actually made by foley artists is incredible and you don’t actually realise much that some sounds are completely re-made rather than filmed on set.

This video is of Hugh Jackman re-creating his sound effects of him fighting in Logan, so most of the fighting scenes were filmed on set but then this scene, in particular, he had to re-make all his sounds during this fighting scene using the art of foley.

This film is of two foley artists showing you how the majority of sounds that are created during the art of making foley sound for a variety of different films.

Foley Scene

The scene is where Rocky runs up the iconic stairs in Philadelphia for one of the most iconic scenes in the series of films ever.

The main scene I chose was the scene from Rocky 2 where he runs up the huge flight of stairs in philadelphia with a massive crowd of people running behind him, who followed him throughout town on his run to the steps and it is most probably one of the most iconic scenes in any film ever.

I thought this would have also been one of the easiest scenes to recreate the sounds using foley throughout the scene even though it is only a ten second scene but it is always remembered because of what he did and how well known he was in Philadelphia for his boxing and some people may have also seen him as a sort of father figure, as he trained young kids in the gym where he trained.

 

 

Foley film task

For this task, we were given certain scenes, that the sound had been muted and we then had to create the sounds in our own way such as a foley artist would do and it was quite hard to think and find items that we could replicate the sounds of the video with, we were told to pick 2 scenes out of around ten different scenes, we picked a scene where a guy was using his phone in a street whilst a man walks past him and a scene where a guy is packing something in a box.
