Artist Research – Banksy

Banksy is one of the top British graffiti artists, with his work being preserved all over the world, and selling for millions at auction, but he believes that his work should be left where he has done it compared to being taken down to then be sold at auction. He has also recently been in the news for controversial reasons based on his work such as the girl with the balloon being shredded after it had been sold and then the piece he did in South Wales on a random persons garage wall.

He first came into the lime light of the graffiti world in the early 1990s, where he first started drawing chimps on the side of trains he then moved on to rats, slightly copying the french artist blek le rat, who’s trademark it was with the rats, Banksy first started doing graffiti free hand but then later moved onto using stencils to do his art work and people then knew it was Banksy who had done it.

He also accidentally started a graffiti war with another british graffiti artist called Robbo, as Banksy had sprayed over one of Robbo’s original pieces as he didn’t realise it was an original as it had been sprayed over numerous amounts of time before. So by doing this Banksy started a war with him and wherever either of them would do a piece a part of “team Robbo or team Banksy” would spray there tags over the top of it as a mark on the war.

This war went on for a few years before Robbo had an accidental fall and was then placed in a coma, Banksy then made a tribute to Robbo whilst he was in a coma, as a way to try and end the feud and also send out a candle to Robbo whilst he was in an induced coma, Robbo later died in 2014 leaving a son and two daughters behind, he was around before Banksy was and he was an inspiration to young artists around the country.

His injury was also 5 days prior to his exhibition, at the signal gallery “Team Robbo – the sell out tour”, a few of his pieces were sold and the feud between Banksy and King Robbo then ended and the piece was restored that Banksy had painted over the top of with a spray can with a flame and a crown added to the black and white piece which was a really nice touch by Banksy.

Final Edit of Final Film

This is my final edit of the final film for the module, I didn’t really enjoy doing this film as it was very hard to come up with an idea for what I wanted to do, so this made it very hard to even base anything on for a film, making it difficult to come up with even a concept for the film and what it was going to be about.

I didn’t really enjoy it because not everyone I asked really wanted to be involved within the film so it was hard on that part and just finding the motivation to make this film was really quite hard, so i’ve also rushed this film so that’s another reason why it hasn’t turned out as well as I wanted it to.

The reason this one is different to my first edit is because i’ve added transitions and sped certain bits up and made it flow a bit better, but this made the editing process hard as well because of the sound and what I wanted the film to look like it didn’t turn out at all how I wanted it to, so that was particularly annoying.

I also didn’t want to make the film too long as I imagined people would get bored as I didn’t enjoy doing it I didn’t think people would really enjoy watching it, because I believe if the director has enjoyed making the film it will be a good film not a mediocre one.

1st Edit of Final Film

This is my first edit of my final film, I haven’t quite fine tweeked it yet and i need to add transitions and another bit of dialogue with one more person, but this is the first edit so you get a feel to what the film really depicts and what message I am trying to get across during this film.

This is the first edit of my final film there is a slight bit more dialogue I need to add and also some transitions and other stuff into the video but that’s about it really.

Base film idea for final film

The main base idea for my final film is that i want to use politics as i think it makes quite a good base for a film, as it makes quite an easy base to make a film as i’m going to use clips from youtube of like political marches, political debates, social media news, news reports based on large companies such as apple.

I will also add my own clips to it where i have asked people i know the five questions and im going to get there opinions on the questions, and incorporate the clips from youtube and my own films into it and the film should be around 5-6 minutes long as i don’t want to make it too long as i think people will get bored.

Final Ideas for final film

The main idea i have for my final film is based more on politics than anything else, because i believe that is one of the most controversial topics of film and that it depicts what happens with the world such as things like brexit, how social media affects the world, money and more things that are affecting the world at the moment.

Some questions i have for my film are:

  1. how do you think the internet has affected the world?
  2. what’s your opinion on how the world is changing?
  3. what’s your opinion on how brexit is going to change the UK?
  4. how has social media affected the world?
  5. do you think the world is changing in a good or bad way?

1st Ideas for final film

These are a few base ideas for my practice in context module, where i have decided to maybe use found footage of all news stories and political issues that are happening throughout the world. I was going to use news clips and incorporate them with my family and friends opinions on the world and how politics is changing other things, so i was going to maybe film them, and make there faces black and white for more effect with various news clips spreaded in between here and there.

I feel like this would work very well because it would be relevant to what is happening in the world at the current moment, so I think that it would make for a very interesting film, because of world politics and controversy that is happening at the moment within the world as its a major part of our world, such as brexit is going to effect younger people more than older people.

Exchange Film

This film was based on a piece of footage that I exchanged with a fellow classmate of some footage that she had pf her son playing in a car, so I decided to incorporate this with found footage of the films fast and furious: tokyo drift and baby driver as they are both all about driving and cars, so I thought they would work very well together.

This is an interesting watch as it flows unexpectedly less than the way that you thought it would of done so i’m pleased with the way it has come out compared to my first edit of the exchange film.

Using my old footage

This video that i found was from when i did my A-levels so i thought i would use that because i thought that it would tie quite well with what Ben started to talk about in his so i started to talk about life throughout my narrative because it ties together very well.

This was one of the first films i made so that’s why it isn’t edited together very well compared to what i have recently done, as i have learned to edit a lot better with a lot of different techniques.

Research – Ben Brown

For my collaboration video i used Ben Brown’s visual vibes of the arctic to add to my old footage, as it is one of my favourite videos that i have ever seen and the amount of amazing footage throughout the video makes you want to keep watching the video and this is why i really enjoy it.

these few photos are just a few shots from the video as this gives you a slight insight into what you see throughout the video as these shots are amazing by themselves.

Collab Video with Found Footage

This video is of one of my videos mixed with Ben Brown’s Arctic Visual Vibes, and one of my old films that I made during my a-levels so i mixed them both together and then added a narration over the top of it.

The difference between my video and Brown’s video was that his was just about a trip he took to the arctic and he wanted to show off the films and photographs he took over the course he was there and then I incorporated my video and made it more meaningful by using my footage as well as my own narrative over the top.
