Research – Dylan Cole

Another major artist in the visual effects industry is Dylan Cole, some of the films he has worked on are fast and furious Tokyo drift, 2012, avatar and tron just to name a few of his major films that he has done matte paintings and designs for.

He is currently working on the sequels for the avatar films as he is the production designer on the film so it’s a massive job he is taking on.

This is a video showing just how Dylan Cole does his matte painting for his films that he works on it’s a quick minute tutorial showing you mostly the basics, and how he mainly does landscapes for the films he works on.

Research – Aaron McBride

Aaron McBride is one of the leading visual effects artists, but he is more based working on games compared to films and tv series, and I took a keen interest in his work as I enjoy playing games so it completely made sense to me, to add him as one of the inspirations for visual effects.

He is also working for lucasfilms which create Star Wars, he’s also worked on films such as dead pool 2, rango, iron man just to name a few.

This video shows just a few examples of Aaron McBride’s work that he has done previously on films such as Kong, and various others.

Rubiks Cube Film 1st Edit

This is the 1st edit of my final visual effects film, where i have tried to make a rubiks cube levitate in between my two hands using after effects, which is easy to come up with ideas but its hard to then make these ideas work and make them look realistic, in such a short time it’s impossible.

Final Edit of my controller levitating idea

This one is my last edit of this idea because its not really working the way i want it to, as i want it to look more realistic but it’s not turned out the way i’ve wanted it to as it doesn’t look realistic at all in my opinion, so i’m going to try it again but with a different object to see if that changes anything.

this is the final edit it goes black at 30 seconds which it shouldn’t do but oh well.

1st Attempt at After Effects

The video that i’m putting in this part of the blog is my first attempt at after effects with a bit of keying of a video over the top of a still image, it’s only simple because I don’t really know how to use the after effects software that much just yet.

All the sources within the video are from my own doing but it’s just a slight bit of messing around with the software and getting to know what it can do and what i can achieve on the software if i put my mind to it.

So as i learn more of the software i will be able to achieve a lot more in a lot less time because i will know a lot more shortcuts to be able to change the film in different ways.
